Private John Henry Ross enlisted into the South Staffordshire Regiment and served in it’s airborne battalion. Pte ‘Jack’ Ross served in 7 Platoon, A Company, 2nd Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment.Pte Ross served in North Africa and Italy before going by glider to Arnhem on Operation Market Garden. He role was No2 on a Bren Gun.

He was wounded and left at Kate ter Horst’s house which was a Regimental Aid Post during the height of the fighting and when taken a Prisoner of War, he sent to Stalag XIB in Fallingbostel.
